And don't go with that awful tourist idea that Italy's only a museum of antiquities and art. Love and understand the Italians, for the people are more marvellous than the land.

有關 Where Angels Fear to Tread

Where Angels Fear to Tread（天使不到之處）是 Forster 寫的第一部小說。故事以兩個英國女子出發至義大利旅行揭開序幕，以托斯卡尼區的小山城 San Gimignano 為背景（書上稱之為 Monteriano），語調時而詼諧時而尖銳，讓義大利人的慵懶散漫不拘小節和英國人的保守拘謹惺惺作態形成強烈的對比，也成為他下一部小說 A Room with a View（窗外有藍天）的藍本。
